Miss Conversation Piece Covers the Screening of TV One’s “Behind The Movement”

By  |

Sunday, January 14, 2018, at the Museum of Tolerance, TV One held a screening for “Behind The Movement.” This film is the story of how Rosa Parks and leaders of the NAACP planned the Montgomery Bus Boycott in only three days. In the movie, you will get a closer look at some of the lesser known yet instrumental leaders that encouraged Rosa to be the face of the history-making Montgomery Bus Boycott. Despite the reservations of her family due to safety concerns, Rosa wanted to take a stand for all to have civil rights and equal treatment. After hearing about the injustice in the trail of Emmet Till, Rosa was adamant about seeing change not knowing her refusal to give up her seat on the bus would spark a movement.

Following the screening of “Behind The Movement,” the cast, screenwriter, and director spoke about the importance of Rosa Parks’ story and the stories of the other unsung heroes behind this movement. The Q&A panelists included Isaiah Washington (Edgar “E.D. Nixon”), Katrina M. O’Gilvie (Writer), Leah Daniels Butler (Casting Director), Keith Neal (Producer, Swirl Films) and Eric Tomosunas (Executive Producer, Swirl Films.) The panel was moderated by executive D’Angela Proctor (SVP, Original Programming & Production, TV One.)

Miss Conversation Piece got a chance to ask the panel, “Did you get angry at any point during filming because the storyline from 62 years ago is still somewhat relevant to right now?” Screenwriter Katrina M. O’Gilvie, stated “I was… it made me angry, but then the responsibility. I do remember that there was a day that I had to close the laptop and take a walk because I was shaking. I was irritated that we have to tell this story again because it is happening again.” TV One’s #BehindTheMovement is coming Sunday, February 11, 2018, at 7/6C.
